Are you a Playwright or Screenwriter interested in taking part in an episode of The Best Seat in The House: A Table Read Series? Read the submission guidelines below and submit the required information for consideration. We are always looking for new writers, and we aim to bring professional feedback to every table read. If your script is selected for review, we will be in touch for more information.

If your script is not chosen, don’t stress! We offer paid-for table readings to help you take your script to the next level!

TABLE READING TAKING PLACE BETWEEN FEBRUARY AND MARCH 2024:

Submission Dates open on the 12th of December 2023 and close on 18th January 2024.

We are looking for TWO new scripts to bring to the table.

Follow the guidelines below.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

There is no submission fee.
Submissions that do not adhere to the following guidelines will not be considered for selection.

  • Our programme is open to writers from anywhere globally with original works in English who are interested in feedback from the Best Seat in the House.
  • The applicant must be the original creator of the submitted work and the sole owner of its rights. By submitting their work, applicants grant The Best Seat in the House and its collaborator’s permission to use the submitted material for the table reading.
  • The submission must be a completed, new, full-length play (10 Minutes or 65 minutes) or a short film script ( 10 – 45 minutes) that has not had a previous professional production. If the play has undergone a workshop, staged reading, or development, the writer must state so in their submission.
  • No more than four characters.
  • All documents must be submitted in PDF format.
  • The writer will remain the sole owner of the work.
  • All script submissions are for our eyes only; they won’t be shared without your consent. 
  • The Best Seat In The House only offers an opportunity to have your script read aloud by professional actors with professional feedback. It is the responsibility of the writer to decide whether to follow the advice or not.
  • The writer must have access to a computer and an internet connection for the zoom table read.

DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED AS A PDF.

Should your application be successful after this submission, we will contact you to request the full script. This does not mean that your script has been chosen, but rather that you have made it to the final list to be chosen from.

In the meantime, ONLY send the following documents in ONE PDF document.

  • Artistic Bio ( Maximum of 200 words)
  • Logline /Premise ( 50 words)
  • Short synopsis (This description is not a teaser or publicity blurb; it should include all major plot elements, including the climax.) (Maximum 500 words)
  • Writers Statement (Please describe your story’s theme, tone and the issues and topics it addresses – maximum 500 words.)
  • A short description of any issues, concerns or problems you are having with your script.
  • Short character breakdown.
  • What are you expecting or wanting from the table read to assist you in your next steps?

T’S & C’S

Please note that the table reading will be recorded on zoom if your script is selected for the hot seat. The writer can then keep their edited zoom recording to use at their disposal.

When possible, we will have in-person live table readings.

By taking part in a table reading, some of your information will be used on our social media platforms.

Please note: No actors, readers, or expert professionals are being paid to offer their services to read your script. We will always try to have the right actors and professionals available for your table reading.

The Best Seat in the House and its affiliates will not be responsible for further developing your script once you have had your table reading.
